Solid waste service rates increased to match rising costs

NOVEMBer 3, 2008 – Pflugerville, TX – The City of Pflugerville’s solid waste provider, IESI, notified the City that beginning November 1, 2008, the price for solid waste service will increase by 5.6%.

This increase is based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) for the period July 1, 2007, to July 1, 2008, which is determined by the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. The current agreement between the City and IESI, dated November 1, 2006, locked in a rate for a period of 2 years, and stipulated that the price may be adjusted for the 12-month period beginning November 1, 2008, if justified by the Consumer Price Index. 

The rate increase will assist IESI in covering the costs of labor, health insurance, disposal and fuel costs that have increased over the past two years, allowing the company to continue to provide the quality solid waste services that the City of Pflugerville expects and deserves. 

The 5.6% increase will be reflected on City of Pflugerville bills for solid waste beginning November 1.  The monthly rate for City of Pflugerville residents increased from $14.81 per month to $15.82 per month.  The monthly charge for customers outside the City limits will now be $17.73.
