Pflugerville celebrates completion of Lake Pflugerville Park

The City of Pflugerville celebrates the completion of Lake Pflugerville Park on Saturday, March 6 starting at 3 p.m.

The afternoon includes a grand opening dedication at 4 p.m., family kite flying contest at 5 p.m., recreational activities including kayaking, fishing and washers, a visit from Ms. Poppy the Clown, a rock climbing wall and a G-rated family movie at dark, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America who celebrate 100 years.

"While the Lake has been open since 2006, on March 6 we celebrate the completion of the adjacent park," Parks and Recreation Director Glenn Holzer said. "Some park highlights include the use of low-water use plants in 'Drop by Drop' landscaping as well as the installation of 11 solar panels on the pavilion, one solar trash compactor and a future wind turbine furthering Pflugerville's environmental commitment."

Located at the intersection of Weiss Lane and Pflugerville Parkway, Lake Pflugerville Park amenities include a sand bathing beach area, 54 space paved parking lot, 3.1 mile walking/jogging trail, 7 fishing piers, covered pavilion with barbecue facilities, restrooms, boat launch ramp and kayak area. The lake was originally built as a water reservoir which also provides an additional recreational option for Pflugerville residents and guests.

The City of Pflugerville Parks and Recreation Department visited with residents in October 2008 for input on park amenities which resulted in the move of a parking lot to behind the dam and modified entrance locations. Future plans for the park include sand volleyball courts and additional play equipment.

The park is funded in part from a $200,000 Partnership in Parks Grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and $100,000 from the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation.
